Exclamation For those of you with a life outside of videogames

Consider this. I'm 21, in college and married. (I know, I know, too young)
I bought WoW in Feb and 7 days of playtime later (almost 180 hrs) I'm still only a level 43 undead rogue. Honestly, this may be more time than I've spent on any one game in my whole life. The situation became so bad that I was skipping classes to play and the whole thing almost cost me my marriage! If you are in a similar situation as myself, play GW, not WoW. It will be much more satisfying in the time you have to spend. My character is now up for sale (43 undead rogue, mount purchased, server: Archimonde (pvp), account paid through May, email [email protected] in Madison, Wisconsin to purchase ) For those of you with endless hours to spend and no other pressing time constraints, purchase my game/character and get out there and start ganking!
I loved WoW like no other game before it, but I just don't have that kind of time. Therefore, the nod goes to Guild Wars.
Happy gaming!

Ok ill try and take this SLOW for you.

A massive(ly) multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG is a multiplayer computer role-playing game that enables thousands of players to play in an* evolving virtual world at the same time over the Internet.

Ok the only thing that you are realy realy trying hard to prove is that the towns are diferent worlds.

The world you are in is Tyria (sp?) that is my definion for a "world". What I meant was that is up to wide inerpritaion. Please dont try and insulte someone do to your mistakes.

Has anyone played Monster Hunter on PS2? GW seems like it has alot in common with it...other than no PvP in Monster Hunter.

Anyhow, I'm planning on picking up GW this week, and looking forward to it...should be a nice break from grinding. Not that I don't like WoW, but being a "casual" gamer, it's hard spending ALL your playtime trying to level. I like having time to explore and PvP, and basicly jack around and not feel like I wasted a night.

Right OK, then this single world of Tyria has over 200 cities of Ascalon located in the same space? That's amazing.

It's Tyria btw.

The semantics are killing me here. Anyhow, my take on it...

Frankly, I don't enjoy the idea of paying for a game I already bought. I don't play WoW and never will thanks to guild wars.

Personally, (not just saying this to try and support guild wars vs world of warcraft) I am glad that the only place I see other people is in a town. I truely enjoy going out on my own for whatever mission I feel necessary. I feel just fine in knowing that romping around and taking in the beautiful scenery (I have never felt the need to just walk around exploring in a game before lol) will not end in my death due to some high level jerks whooping my around. I love the pvp. Just love it. I am addicted to it, I love the team aspect of it considering you work as a team yet you WILL always get a 1vs1 battle within your match with someone. I love how many skills there are. I can't believe how many near subclasses there are. You can have a curse necromancer, death magic necromancer, a necromancer focused on the draining of others, or any mix that I feel like slapping together of a trillion skills to choose from. I love the hammer, sword, axe warriors. I love the class combos. Screw these boards, I am gonna go play now lmao.

altho I dunno how it compares to world of warcraft, but this is what I have been looking for in a game for so long. I would buy city of heros if there was a single player mode you didn't have to pay for, same with WoW. Personally, I don't feel justified in paying 20 bucks a month for huge travel times and the knowledge that there are a bunch of people EVERYWHERE.

Lightbulb Calm Down, please!

Please, give the MMO thing a rest. Give your ego's a break as well. This endless chattering will get you both nowhere. You have the games? Play them and stop talking about them. And thank you. And by the way, if you can't type using proper english well then... you know the rest just keep this stuff to yourselves now.

look, its obviously not an MMORPG. In an MMORPG, you encounter things you dont expect. In this game, its mostly single player unless you find a group and go in. In an MMORPG, there is ONE world. There are a few exceptions with games like AO and WoW where they have SOME instances... not all.

In WoW, The Barrens was a single zone. If you went to point A at the barrens, and someone else came to point A, you would see them. You sometimes fought over mobs but other times you rejoiced with each other. In Guild Wars, there are unlimited amount of instances for each person.

So this is how you try and cover your mistakes by insulting yet agin?

HOW YOU INTERPET IT IS THE KEY. In that godly definition of yours, you try and make it into somethin that it is not. I merly pointed out that your asumtions where wrong.

And yea I put the (sp?) there for a reason you know

EDIT: *sigh* i grow weary this is going no where and you refuse to look closely at the def you posted.

I wash my hands of this.

There were no insults in any of my posts. I don't know what your problem is. You did say "sp?" which to me looked like a question so I answered. You also live in Texas and I wasn't sure if maybe you were originally Mexican or something and not that great at English (which would also explain all your spelling mistakes), because to be honest there is no way to interpret that definition in any other way.

I played WoW until I got into the mid 30's and couldn't take it anymore. same shit over and over,

"Kill 8 of these guys, 12 of these guys"
or
"return this letter to this guy in stormwind who will tell u to return it to ironforge who will tell you to take it to blah blah"

its just so mindless and so level/class oriented.

If you're looking for a retarded/skillless MMO like Everquest or what not, stick with WoW. I'm a competitive StarCraft and Counter-Strike player and im satisfied with this game. as a warrior on wow, i could never beat a mage or paladin my level unless they were REALLY bad

GW is a much better game imo - it feels like a real game where u walk around with ur party to do real quests where for one, guys just dont respawn and grinding doesnt matter in this game.

Anyone who states that an MMORPG (like WoW or EQII) can support thousands of players at the same time and Guild Wars can't is just plain wrong, neither of them can.

The best you can hope for in any of these is approx 256 players, and then only if your connection, system can handle it and you can deal with a toelrable amount of lag.

Guild wars isn't an MMORPG, after reading this thread I've come to realise this, it;s close but not quite.

It;s not impossible to make it so either, if the towns can support 50 players.....then all they have to do to win my favour is allow the "larger" zones to support multiple players.

Thats the part I miss, with WoW you can see random parties walking around outside the towns, gives it that MMORPG feel, you can see their weapons, you can heal them, assist them.

GW doesn't llow this, a town in GW is one large lobby (a great one at that) but it is really.

I know they wanted to avoid kill stealing and all but I think they shouldn't have seperated the tows and the areas around the towns.

By all means instance missions (the proper ones like defending Ascelon, raiding against the charr) but the general dogs bodying in between would be better if it was shared and many players could be seen.

50 would suffice, no more than a town.

Don't get me wrong, I love GW, I'm an MMORPG vet, I've played almost all of them, and to high levels too (Master Bounty Hunter for SWG, levelled that character at US release when it was bugged, required a serious grind as no mounts avail and most missions were a waste of time.

EQ2 levelled my Shadowknight up high, found it was lacking in any segregation, the evil side played alongside the good, where's the fun in that?

WoW I levelled a Warlock to level 51, the class is broken, the Warlock rep hates them so they won't get fixed but I do feel the PVP is real easy and fun to get into, perhaps too fun and easy.

Played others too that would be meaningless to mention (CoH, EVE Online, WWIIonline).

They all have the same principles, they all zone players apart to avoid lag, the only difference is that in GW you have to want to find players, with WoW and the other MMORPG's you bump into them (which I like), not forgetting also that GW instances everywhere aside from towns, which IMHO is a little too much.

De-instance the areas around towns, even make it optional to instance if you really want to, that would stop people complaining about the misleading comments that make it seem like an MMORPG (which it isn't, although this is by design, it is rectifiable).

Now that I think about it this is a smart move by the developers, this game was based on Diablo 2.

Just to add to that, EQ is almost exactly like GW with regards to zoning.

Someone mentioned their servers can handle more, bang on the nail there, but the principle is the same.

When a zone gets crowded your then zoned to the next instance of it, it does this in cities, open areas and dungeons.

If they allowed the same amount of players outside a town as they do inside GW would be no different than EQ, with the exception that I can bet EQ can support more players due to a larger datacentre, although at times I wondered how many players they had in each instance, since I regularly felt I was the only one in a zone yet there were two more instances created after I entered mine.

I read the comments. One guy said. "too much lack of content." He clearly hasn't played the game before. I've got quests upon quests lined up. missions to complete, weapons to fiond, armor to craft.

Some people are bound and determined not to have fun in life. There is always something negative about everything. Nothing positive.

I play GW because it's fun and free play. I want to jump in on the action without grind. GW is what if been looking for. For those that don't like GW, I sure there is a game out there you do like.

It seem since GW was released there are a lot of people making sensless comments about the game, yet it out ranks or is very close to the top is all the game rankings. Hmmm...

Same happens with every game. Fanboys from other games get some sort of strange satisfaction by bashing "rival" games on their forums and giving them 0 scores on any player review system they can find.
